Wemyss Malts

Here we go again with the Wemyss Malts Cream of the Crop tasting notes. The Wemyss family has a passion for whiskey since the beginning of the 19th century when Haig’s founded its first distillery on the island of Wemyss. They make their own blends but are especially appreciated for their job as independent bottlers. Each bottle name has a special name to guide the buyer to its favorite flavors. So what about this “Cream of the Crop”? This one is a Glen Garioch, from the Garioch Valley’s distillery in the Highlands, founded in a very small village at the end of the 18th century. Distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2016 (it’s a 27 or 26 years old whisky, we do not have precise dates, 261 bottles). Let’s see this Wemyss Malts whisky!

Cream of the Crop

Nose: Extremely sweet and fruity, in a mixture of apples, oranges and mandarins essentially. Something herbaceous and mineral too. Very cool!

Mouth: A little bit more powerful than the nose, but it is slightly creamy in the mouth. Always fruity notes but more on citrus and lemon in particular. It’s also a little honeyed (maybe not enough creamy for me to call it “cream of the crop” but it’s incredibly pleasant!), again with a herbaceous note but also a slightly smoky note. Not really tobacco or peat, it is rather slightly woody. A touch of vanilla at the end of the mouth .

Finish: Long, on vanilla and cinnamon

Note: 90/100 (maybe a bit too much generous, but really just little because it’s worth at least 89/100, and… it’s my blog I give the note that I want, but I really like its freshness and these fruity and creamy notes, although it is not as creamy as expected ).

This Cream of the Crop was on sale for almost 130€ on his release date. But as all their bottles are released in (very) limited edition, you will only find it on the parallel market. Yeah, I know, I’m a very bad guy speaking about so many bottles that are not available anymore :p
