mackmyra

Today, let’s discover some Swedish whisky with a nice single malt, the Mackmyra Skördetid (46.1%). This one is a special bottling from their seasonal range, this Macmyra Skördetid has spend some time in old barrels of Amarone Masi Costasera (Masi is an Italian house, world famous for its wines). Before this special ending, this whisky spent time in bourbon barrels, American oak, sherry Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez… Just that. That sounds great, isn’t it? Let’s see if he lives up to his promises.

Mackmyra SkördetidNose: Very nice, very fresh, very smooth, with fruits and vanilla. First of all, aromas of pears and grapes, followed by some notes of spices. Aromas of cognac persist mainly on the length…

Mouth: Here again, something fruity and fresh on the palate, with strong notes of spices, this aspect makes me immediately think of Glenmorangie Nectar d’Or (and that’s a good memory). But the fruity notes are of a different nature, more on citrus with grapefruit. Some peppery notes. All of this with a nice balance.

Finish: Long and warm with dried fruits and spices.

Note: 85/100

It was great to discover swedish whisky with this Mackmyra Skördetid! No doubt that I will try some other bottlings from this distillery, with hope they’re all so pleasant. If their other seasonal whiskys are like this one, it promises some fun.

And for an average price of 70 € (and even for 50 € for our lucky German neighbors), it is an original whisky with a good quality/price ratio.

Our Scottish friends don’t stop finding big competitors around the world but we will not complain about it…
